Sin came in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve believed the serpent. He told them if they ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would become like God. They’d forgot that they already were like God being been made in His image. How much more like Him could they be?
Many today believe the same thing about themselves. Instead of seeing that they’ve been made in the image of God they see only their lack and think they have to attain something more.
So what happened when they ate from this tree? The Bible tells us that sin entered the world and death through sin. I believe that it was God’s original intent for us to live forever, communing with him, and that when sin entered; death was the consequence of their action.
Does all sin cause death? Yes, I believe it does. Why do I believe that?
Even though stealing doesn’t end a life like murder would, if you’re caught, wouldn’t it end your life, as you know it? What if you’re not caught? Would you continue to think that you were the same person you were before you stole? What if a family member or friend found out and they distance themselves from you because of it. That relationship you had with them essentially dies.
Maybe you think I’m splitting hairs here but hang with me. Everything we do has a consequence to it. Good and bad.
Sin, as we’ve been taught, has always been portrayed as an action, something we do, like Eve eating the fruit.
When sin entered the world death was the result of sin, right?
What other actions cause death?
If you gossip about someone and they find out you were talking about them, chances are the relationship you had with them dies. Even if they don’t find out, the person you were talking to might start to think of you differently and not see you so favorably anymore. Their perception of you changes and they lose trust in you and it changes the way they think about you. Isn’t that a form of death?
What about adultery, another action? One spouse cheats on the other and if the one cheated on finds out, their feelings for the cheater die. They lose trust in that person. Even if they don’t find out but contract an STD because of it, can’t that cause death? The one cheating is killing the relationship by thinking they deserve something better or else why would they cheat. In other words, their feelings have died for that person.
What about things that aren’t necessarily action based, like sicknesses?
Take cancer for instance. Did we do something to get it? No. But just like the original sin brought death, it also brought things known to cause death.
The medical world is now telling us that stress can cause all kinds of problems. Stress is nothing more than a lack of peace, which happens to be one of the fruits of the spirit. So am I saying stress is a sin? Yes, but not in the way we’ve always believed sin to be.
Let me ask you this…If you went around telling people you had cancer would you think that you were practicing sin? No, you’d think you were telling the truth as the doctor confirmed through tests, right? In actuality you would be telling nothing more that facts given to you by a doctor that deals in facts.
The truth is that Jesus died to free us from death. ALL death. We don’t get to pick and choose which we’ve been set free from. He said ALL and He meant ALL. I challenge you to show me one example in the Bible where Jesus refused to heal anyone.
So if Jesus went around healing ALL who were sick and oppressed by the devil why are we still walking around hanging on to death?
The New Testament tells us that, greater things than these would be available after His death. If there was already healing and He died to conquer death, what’s the greater thing?
The one thing He couldn’t do when still alive was to save that person from living eternally without His Father. It took His death to accomplish that. So if that’s the greater thing, why do we view it as the lesser thing than healing?
I know you want to defend your beliefs and say you don’t view it as insignificant but are you walking around as a born again believer, perfectly whole in mind, body and spirit?
Many say that they have diabetes because it’s hereditary in their family. Really? Are born again? So as a new creation your new family is Jesus and Father God right? Do you think they suffer from anything the doctors diagnose here on earth? Why do we hang on to those death sentences?
I believe that most, not all, of the people I know that hang on to their illnesses, telling everyone each little thing that’s wrong with them, are looking for attention. Anyone would tell you they don’t want to be sick and die so why are they sick?
Most of the sick people I know are screaming to be noticed by those they love. Spouses that do their own thing, living almost separate lives. Tell me you don’t see this going on around you all the time. Even single people are looking for attention but afraid to tell anyone they need to be loved or paid attention too. Kids are acting out in school and at home because the parents are too busy to spend time with them.
Have you eaten out lately? Sit in a restaurant and watch couples or kids on their cell phones texting or playing games while a real live person sits across the table from them.
To me there is nothing ruder than to be sitting at dinner with everyone around me on his or her phone. It’s no different than whispering to each other and I’m not privy to what’s going on.
So here’s the bottom line. People need to know they are loved. If they don’t know how much you love them then how are they going to know how much the Father loves them. And if they don’t know how much He loves them, than how are they going to know that sickness, adultery, lying, stealing, fear, cancer, high blood pressure, etc. has no place in their lives.
Love covers a multitude of sins. Literally. The Blood of Jesus is enough but without us showing love, how are others to understand just what they are free from. Love truly does conquer all!
So where do we go from here? Start paying more attention to those around you. If you’re sick, look up, not at the illness. Take your eyes off yourself and stop talking about it to everyone one you come across and start talking to your heavenly Father who is the only one who has already done something about it.
When you talk to the Father use faith filled words that the enemy has no choice but to flee from. Have a confident expectation of good happening in your life because just as Job got what he feared by opening the door for the enemy to come in, so will you.
Close the door in the enemies face and know you are beloved of the Father and your ARE the righteousness of God because of Christ Jesus.
